Longevity research peptides are studied for their roles in telomere biology, mitochondrial function, and cellular senescence. Epitalon (Epithalon, AEDG) is a synthetic tetrapeptide developed in Vladimir Khavinson’s laboratory at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology; it has been reported to induce telomerase activity and elongate telomeres in cultured human somatic cells, and an independent 2025 replication reported telomere elongation in human cell lines.
FOXO4-DRI is a retro-inverso peptide that has become a reference tool in senescence research. The foundational 2017 study in Cell by Baar and colleagues showed that FOXO4 accumulates in senescent cells where it binds p53 to block apoptosis; the FOXO4-DRI peptide competitively disrupts this interaction, and in naturally aged mice reduced senescent-cell burden and improved markers of organ function. The category also includes NAD+, the mitochondrial-derived peptide MOTS-c, the mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide SS-31 (elamipretide), and the copper peptide GHK-Cu.
